We are all about the ritual.
Everyday is made up of a series of rituals that keep us grounded, present, and feeling good. Staying on course with healthy habits is really important during the holiday season.
From the way we approach skincare to the foods we consume, we try to make every decision intentional and mindful. Rituals are one of the best ways to do that. Take the guessing out, take the time out, and focus on the moment.
One of our favorite rituals is our morning cup of coffee. Caffeine often gets a bad rap, but truthfully, in moderation (ie. one cup, not five) caffeine has many health benefits. It has been shown to improve heart health, brain function, increase dopamine levels, boost mood, reduce certain types of cancer, protect the liver, and of course… increase energy levels.
Lesser known are the benefits that caffeine has externally. Most people don’t realize that caffeine is actually an antioxidant. This antioxidant effect can help fight premature aging, diminish sun spots, and minimize wrinkles. Applied externally caffeine also helps tighten the skin reducing cellulite and any skin sagging. It also restricts blood vessels which helps reduce swelling, and decreases puffiness. The list goes on.
Of course being mindful of where you source your coffee is important too- we’ve been loving the organic, medium bodied blend from local roaster Canyon Coffee.
The next time you decide to throw away your coffee grounds, think again.
This no waste recipe is one of our favorites from Coconut Kitchen . We’ve modified to include coffee grounds.
Coconut sugar is suggested in this recipe. Coconut sugar has a great texture, and it breaks down into very small micro beads that provide a really deep and refined exfoliation. However, coconut sugar can be a bit pricey, so feel free to use generic white sugar if you would like.
Deeply nourishing, hydrating, and calming - you will be blown away by how good (and easy!) this recipe is.
1/2 cup coconut sugar
1/2 cup fresh or brewed coffee grinds (finely ground)
1/2 cup coconut oil
2 tablespoons honey (optional)
A few drops of the essential oil of your choice*
*We love peppermint essential oil for an invigorating blend, or rose essential oil for an extra moisturizing combo.
Mix all ingredients together. Use only a few tablespoons at a time. Make sure to keep the mixture away from water when using or the sugar will dissolve.
Makes enough for approximately 2 weeks of use.
Relax. Sit back. and get ready to adopt your new favorite ritual!
