You know what is an unexpectedly really great pairing with Thanksgiving food? The Margarita. Given that this years festivities feel far from traditional, we figure that it's a good time to mix it up.
Enter the Hibiscus Grapefruit Margarita.
Nothing traditional about it, but absolutely delicious - we've been inspired by the beautiful color and all the possibilities of hibiscus this fall. The tea is a delight to sip all day long, the steeped flowers can be used as a meat substitute (more on that later), and the color is off the charts gorgeous. Hibiscus is used quite often in Mexican cuisine where it is called jamaica - so it feels like a natural pairing with the margarita. It's also packed with antioxidants, immune boosting, and liver protective properties.
When I started concepting our Thanksgiving menu, I was thinking about cocktails that would pair well - and that I would personally be excited to drink. Tart, tangy, and light enough to cut through all those decadent foods - this cocktail feels like a good choice.
You can also make it with or without tequila. We've been inspired by the buzz free cocktail recently, and if your looking to go that route there is nothing better than a dose of Juna full spectrum CBD. Their Balance tincture helps take the edge off without any side effects. It also adds a light and pleasant herbaceaous note that I find goes really well in this cocktail.
HIBISCUS GRAPEFRUIT MARGARITA //
Makes 2-4 Servings
Brew 8 oz of strong hibiscus tea. 1.5-2 teaspoons dried Hibiscus Flowers steeped with 12 oz boiling water. The longer the steep the brighter the color. Strain tea.
Sweeten 8oz tea with 1 tablespoons honey, coconut sugar, or regular sugar. You want to make it a little sweet because this will be your 'mixer'. Use less sugar as you wish.
Juice 1 grapefruit - approx 6 oz of grapefruit juice.
Juice 3-4 limes - approx. 6 oz of lime juice.
In a shaker combine:
2 oz hibiscus tea concentrate
2 oz grapefruit juice
2 oz tequilla or lime juice
Add 1 serving size of Juna Balance CBD
Shake, and strain.
Garnish with lime, or hibiscus flowers to make it extra special. You could sugar the rim, but I prefer it without.
Sit back, relax and enjoy!
